Nokia Lumia 720 shows up online; priced at Rs 18,999

The Nokia Lumia 720, which was announced in February at the Mobile World Congress, has been spotted at an online retailer. The smartphone which will take up the spot directly under the Lumia 820 in Nokia’s portfolio, has been priced at Rs 18,999. Currently, even pre-orders for the device have not opened up, though we expect them to begin soon as the EMI offer attached to the smartphone expires on April 24th.

Even though the Lumia 720 doesn’t carry the PureView tag, Nokia is going to target shutterbugs with the smartphone. The primary camera is a 6.7 megapixel with Carl Zeiss optics, while the 1.3 megapixel snapper at the front is described as an "HD-quality, wide-angle" camera that makes "taking pictures with friends and video calling easier." The smartphone comes with the latest Nokia apps, including Nokia Music, the HERE location suite, and an optional snap-on wireless charging cover.

The design of the Lumia 720 reminds us very much of the Nokia 920, but the display leaves a lot to be desired. Despite giving it a generous 4.3-inch display, the company has stuck to a native resolution of 800 x 480, which seems fitting for a low-end device, but not this particular smartphone. In fact, two other Lumia handsets priced below the 720 also have the same resolution, so perhaps a bump in that department would have been nice.

Under the hood is a CPU made of dual Krait cores manufactured by Qualcomm. The Snapdragon SoC also has an Adreno 305 GPU and there’s 512 MB of RAM. This combination sounds good enough for a mid-range phone, but the amount of RAM has us worried that some apps may not be compatible with this particular smartphone.

The Lumia 720 comes in five colours, with a replaceable wireless charging back panel also an option. The phone has a 2000 mAh battery, which the company says should last 520 hours on standby and 13 hours for 3G talktime.
