Nokia reportedly in talks with major Indian telcos for its LTE-ready smartphone

Nokia is in talks with Indian mobile service providers to adopt its smartphones that come with LTE support, according to a report by The Economic Times. The company just recently announced low cost 4G ready smartphone dubbed Lumia 625  at Microsoft’s recent BUILD conference. Vipul Mehrotra, director for smart devices at Nokia's Indian, Middle East and African markets told the news site, “As the Indian LTE landscape has been recently clarified, we are working closely with operators on India plans.” Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance Jio Infocomm and Idea cellular have bought spectrums in 1800 MHz bands to offer 4G services in India. As of now only Bharti Airtel is offering 4G in selected circles with Bangalore being the only city with 4G voice services. Jayanth Kollla, co-founder and partner of Convergence Catalystfirm reportedly said that the specifications for the LTE phone do not mention the 1800 Mhz band, so it could also mean that "Nokia may launch an FDD version of the same model in India". Both Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 come with a similar specs sheet. The only feature differentiating factor is connectivit options. The Lumia 630, which is available in dual-SIM variant as well, will be 3G compatible while Lumia 635 will support 4G. The 4G compatibility along with its affordable price tag means the smartphone will be eagerly awaited by the price conscious Indian buyers.
