Nokia and Worldlink to setup 650-km long 100G optical network line in Nepal

A 650-km long backbone-network with Nokia's 1830 PSS DWDM is being setup by both Nokia and Worldlink in Nepal for the country's first 100G optical link.

A 650-km long backbone-network with Nokia's 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is being setup by both Nokia and Worldlink in Nepal for the country's first 100G optical network for super-fast broadband services.The network link will start from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa and Birgunj providing international internet connectivity with countries including India.Worldlink is the largest fixed broadband service provider in Nepal and to meet the ever increasing demands from the users it has tied up with Nokia’s optical network technology to flexibly increase its network capacity. The technology being implemented is powered by Nokia’s Photonic Service Engine-2 which is the industry’s most programmable chipset.
The ultra-fast network will allow people to enjoy highest quality services including HD video, 4K video and Internet TV. The PSS will offer 50 percent lower power consumption than current-generation packet/OTN (Optical Transport Network) switches.Samit Jana, CTO, WorldLink, said in a press-release “WorldLink has a commitment to Nepal to transform the communications landscape so that our people and enterprises thrive. This is our largest project to date and it will allow us to provide ultra-fast broadband services for our mobile and fixed network subscribers in cities as well as rural areas across the country.”
