No more password inputs to download free apps in iOS 6

At the Worldwide Developers Conference held last month, Apple showed off a variety of features for their mobile operating system from the next update. Detailed at the keynote were all the highlighted features. The lesser updates did not warrant a mention but were useful knowledge, nonetheless. The latest bit of news comes via Cult of Mac, that states that with iOS 6, users will not need to put in their password if they want to download a free app from the Apple App Store.

This may come as some great news to iOS users as this will reduce a lot of time spent in entering passwords. Users can just hit the ‘Free’ tab and get their downloads underway. Users not needing to enter passwords for previously purchased apps; this will reduce time spent when reinstalling apps. The only time a user will need to put in his or her password is when he or she wants to purchase a paid app. This means that it will now be extremely convenient for users, it also addresses the issue of security, and there may not be any unwanted purchases by children if they accidently hit the ‘Buy App’ tab.

Another interesting feature that was not given the spotlight at the WWDC keynote that will feature in iOS 6 is that it will have an Auto Layout feature. This feature will allow app developers to apply constraints that define how the elements of the user interface are displayed on-screen. These elements can be shifted and moved depending on a prioritized list of rules.

This Auto Layout feature will be especially beneficial if Apple does launch an iPhone with a larger display or an iPad with a smaller one. This should reduce the issue of fragmentation which the brand has avoided so far.

Apple is expected to increase the size of the display to four inches diagonally. Apple will increase the height, thereby giving it a resolution of 1136 x 640, which is an extra 176 pixels. The aspect ratio would thus rise to 16:9 from the 3:2 aspect ratio found on present generation iPhones. Though the length of the screen will be raised, it is believed that the width of the display will remain the same as that of the current and past generation iPhones.
