No Apple retail stores coming to India after all

A couple of days ago, it was reported that Apple had plans to open retail stores in India. These stores were said to be on the lines of those that the Cupertino brand has in countries like the U.S, UK, Germany, etc., as opposed to the Apple product resellers in India, such as the Reliance iStore and Imagine. However, as per a report by BGR.in, it appears that Apple had no such plans in place and these rumours had been quashed by Apple CEO, Tim Cook during the company’s quarter earning call.

Something like this not coming to India

The report by BGR states that in the meeting Cook revealed that Apple is currently focusing on the Greater China region and he believes that Brazil will be the next key market. When commenting about the rumours about an Apple retail store in India, Cook said that India was a growing market, but as of now, it is still a small one. Hence, they have no plans in place to start a retail store in India. Even though, Cook envisions Brazil as the next big market, Apple as of now has no plans to introduce their retail stores in the South American nation, either, as of now.

It appears that Apple is sticking to these countries, for now. Even though India is a small market, launching a retail store in here would be a significantly good move as the prices of products, such as the Apple iPhone and iPad would be on the same level as our U.S counterparts. Though the price of the iPad is not very high here, the cost of the iPhone definitely is.  When Apple introduced the iPhone 4S in India, it launched and continues to sell at Rs. 44,500 for the 16GB version, while the older iPhone 4 is available for over Rs.37,000. Though the entire blame need not rest on Apple for the pricing structure in India, a retail store would possibly benefit the Indian consumer with the products being available for a bit lesser.
