Nexus 7 refresh specs out; resolution bumped to 1920 x 1200

Updated: US retailer Best Buy has now started taking pre-orders for the 16GB and the 32GB variants of the refreshed Nexus 7. The retailing chain has also released full-resolution press shots for the tablet.

The refreshed Nexus 7 looks quite similar to its predecessor

Google is hosting an event today, where many are speculating that the company will finally unveil Android 4.3 and a refreshed Nexus 7. However, we don’t have to wait too long for details of the latter. Android Police seems to have gotten their hands on what seems to be the new Nexus 7 and have revealed some of the specifications of the tablet through benchmarks and screenshots. The specs go quite well with things that were earlier speculated.

The benchmarks indicate that the tablet runs on a Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz along with 2GB of RAM. The display size will be the same 7 inches as the earlier Nexus 7. However, the resolution is getting bumped up to a considerable 1920 x 1200 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 320 ppi. The resolution is shown to be 1824 x 1200 in the benchmark because of the on-screen buttons present on Nexus devices.

Out of the box, the tablet will run on the fabled Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The update is set to bring many improvements under the hood, such as Bluetooth 4 LE, which essentially makes the battery usage by Bluetooth 4 barely noticeable. It is also supposedly set to decrease the overall RAM usage of Android by around 30 percent.

The AnTuTu benchmark app scores the Nexus 7 at 18,000. Typically, devices running on the S4 Pro are scored in the range of 16,000 to 22,000. Overall, the device essentially seems to be a Nexus 4 with a bigger display.
