New Motorola patent reveals 2019 Moto RAZR design with a foldable display

While everyone's obsessed with the 10-year challenge on social media, Lenovo-owned Motorola may just bring back the Moto RAZR this year.Following a report last week which hinted at the RAZR coming back as a foldable smartphone in 2019, 91Mobiles appears to have spotted design patents filed by Motorola with the World Intellectual Property Organisation on 17 December.[caption id="attachment_5937021" align="alignnone" width="1280"] Design sketches of the probable 2019 Moto Razr. Image: Motorola[/caption]The referral diagrams in the patent show a device with a folding screen on the inside, alongside a second smaller screen on the outside. Motorola appears to have intentionally left out a Motorola dimple or a RAZR logo anywhere to keep us guessing, but the design cues are definitely reminiscent of the original clamshell RAZR V3.[caption id="attachment_5937031" align="alignnone" width="1280"] The back features what appears to be a camera. Image: Motorola[/caption]Similar to the FlexPai showcased at CES, the patent reveals a smartphone which bends through the middle. The smartphone shown in the diagram also features a thick chin, another design cue which reminds us of the RAZR.Moving to the back panel, there's also see a smaller secondary screen on the upper half of the back panel, at the same place where the second display was on the original RAZR V3. Above the secondary display on the phone, there also appears to be a camera, while the lower half features a fingerprint sensor.As far as internals go, there's not much which is known yet, though an earlier report does mention that Motorola will likely make only 2,00,000 units of this new device. The report also suggests that the price of nostalgia here could go as high as $1,500 in the US.
