New handsets to come with radiation emission tags

It seems that finally the mobile phone radiation problem is being taken seriously. The Delhi Govt. has ordered manufacturers that all new handsets will be sold with a tag that displays the amount of radiation emitted by it. As reported by the Daily Mail, in a meeting attended by experts from the health department, the Indian Council of Medical Research, the World Health organization and the Jawaharlal Nehru University, the decision to implement this new plan was taken.

Also, as part of the new reform, a certain restraint will be put on mobile phone towers in and around the capital as a lot of complaints against cell phone towers have been registered in the recent past. Currently, the SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) level for mobiles is less than 1.6 watt per kg for six minutes over a volume containing a mass of 1 gram of human tissue. Guidelines are being meted out on what will be included in the new reforms that the Delhi government plans to undertake. In any way, this is definitely a good step towards people’s safety and it would be nice to see the other state governments joining hands to have a universal plan to tackle the mobile phone radiation problem.
