Netflix sues Yahoo CIO Mike Kail for alleged kickbacks

Netflix is suing a former company vice president who is now chief information officer at Yahoo, accusing him of receiving money from vendors he hired to work with the video streaming company.Netflix says in the lawsuit that two companies paid Michael Kail commissions of up to 15 percent after he secured contracts with them. To date, Los Gatos, California-based Netflix says it paid the companies a combined total of more than $3.7 million.Netflix says it was not aware of the payments until after Kail left in August for Yahoo. At Yahoo, based in Sunnyvale, California, Kail oversees data center operations and reports to CEO Marissa Mayer.Yahoo and Netflix declined to comment. Kail did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Netflix, one of the most popular destinations for streaming TV episodes and movies is not available in India. According to a recent report, Netflix accounts for a massive 35 percent of US Internet Traffic.So why not India? The reasons for Netflix and other popular streaming services not coming to India are plenty, the main one being the licensing costs involved in being streamed in a different country.Even as the country is fast developing its internet infrastructure, not many enjoy Internet speeds over 2Mbps, which isn’t ideal for running streaming services smoothly enough.
