More screenshots of HTC Sense 5 emerge

Some new screenshots of the next version of HTC's Sense UI have popped up. The screenshots were shown off by XDA-Developers member mdeejay, who claims to have a stable build of Android 4.1.2 with Sense 5 running on it. The screenshots give us an even better idea of what to expect in HTC's upcoming M7.

We can once more see the lack of a ringed lock screen. Other details include a cleaner and flatter look. Icons look flat compared to the icons on previous versions of Sense. Widgets look cleaner and seem to have a narrower font than before. Sense 5 is going to be very different from Sense 4+, it seems. HTC may also be forgoing its iconic clock and weather widget.

The lockscreen lacks a ring

Some screenshots had been leaked earlier this week, along with a picture of HTC's upcoming flagship device—the M7. It is worth noting that the positions of the Home and Multitasking buttons have been swapped. Design wise, the phone is very similar to the HTC Butterfly. The back of the device seems to have a completely matte finish. This gives it a bit of a rubbery look and may result in a better grip when holding the smartphone.

This picture is remarkably different from the earlier leaked image of what seemed to be the HTC M7. According to the earlier report, the image was taken from a video made for first time users, giving some instructions on things like SIM card installation.

It is rumoured that the phone will be launched only a few weeks after its debut during MWC 2013. The speculated pricing for the device is around $600, which roughly translates to Rs 32,700.

The icons go for a flatter look that's more aesthetically pleasing

The smartphone is all set to be the first device to sport a 1080p display resolution on a 4.7-inch screen, which will give it a pixel density of 468 ppi (making it 40 percent higher than that of the iPhone 5). Other major details include a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, an LTE chip, a 13 megapixel camera with 1080p recording and an f/2.0 aperture. It will also have a 2 megapixel front facing camera with 1080p video recording. On the audio side of things, the device is set to have a dedicated amplifier designed by Beats along with stereo speakers. It is also set to support the next-gen Wi-Fi standard of 802.11ac, which theoretically has three times the throughput of 802.11n networks.

Speaking of 1080p screens on phones, HTC unveiled the 5-inch Butterfly at an event held in Taipei back in December. The smartphone's specifications are similar to that of the Japan-only HTC J Butterfly and the US-only Droid DNA.

The HTC Butterfly, minus the J, is identical in specifications to its US and Japanese counterparts, which means that the 5-inch, Super LCD 3 screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels is featured on this handset as well. The smartphone comes equipped with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC running at 1.5GHz and has 2GB of RAM. HTC has chosen to endow the Butterfly with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and its Sense UI on top. The handset features a 2020 mAh li-polymer battery that should keep the handset running for quite some time. However, the company has not stated how long the battery will last, so there is no official information available on the battery life.
