Microsoft wants Halo's Reclaimer trilogy to be a saga

Late last year, Microsoft along with developer 343 Industries had kicked off a new trilogy for the Halo franchise, dubbed the Reclaimer trilogy, with Halo 4. According to Microsoft Game Studios Corporate Vice President Phil Spencer, however, the studio is reconsidering the trilogy, turning it into a "saga" instead. Spencer talked about the Reclaimer trilogy as well as the just-announced new Halo game in an interview with Gamestop.

Spencer also talked about the new Halo game being legitimate rather than a sidestory like Halo: ODST or Halo Reach. "It is the next Halo game that we are working on. We will talk more about actually the story arc in the game and how it plays out; we've got more time to talk about that," Spencer said.

He continued, "But having [producer Bonnie Ross] come out and announce the game, making sure people know it's a legitimate version of Halo coming out, and when it's coming out, and features that they're focused on we thought was…important."

Microsoft had originally referred to the game as "Halo Xbox One" and teased that “the next chapter of the award-winning Xbox franchise developed by 343 Industries that will take you on a new journey in the Halo universe beginning in 2014".

The game is set to hit store shelves in 2014 and will be exclusive to Microsoft's next-gen console—the Xbox One.
