Microsoft Outlook for iOS now gets deeper integration of Office apps

Microsoft has now updated its Outlook for iOS devices. The company aims for deeper integration of Office documents in Outlook for iOS. Microsoft says that it will bring the update to Android in the next couple of months.According to the Office blog, Outlook for iOS now opens Office documents sent as attachments directly in their respective apps, replacing the simple viewers we previously used. This new update will now offer a 'tight integration' with calendar, customisable swipe gestures and predictive search which will help users get more done, even on a small screen.[caption id="attachment_278793" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image: Office Blog[/caption]Some of the new features include the ability to open attachments from Outlook, collaboration with attachments in email along with a simpler way to send attachments with Outlook. The blog states that Editing Office documents sent as attachments will now be more simple as a user can just tap on an attachment in Outlook, which will open the file directly in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, ready for editing. For users who haven't downloaded Office apps, Outlook will load a built-in viewer and provide a link to download the app via the App Store.[caption id="attachment_278794" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image: Office Blog[/caption]With the latest update, users who have opened a file from Outlook and finished making the changes, a single tap on the Back button closes the document and returns to Outlook, automatically adding the now-updated file as an attachment in your reply. In addition, Word, Excel and PowerPoint now include a 'Send with Outlook' option in the 'Share' menu. This button will bring up the Outlook 'Compose New Email' pane with the document attached.
