Microsoft Office Online apps updates, comes to Chrome web store

Microsoft has announced that its Office Online including free versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote will be soon available in the Chrome Web Store. Office Online – formerly known as Office Web Apps – works with popular browsers such as Chrome , IE and Safari. However, Microsoft will now let Chrome users add Word Online, PowerPoint Online and OneNote Online to the Chrome App launcher, allowing users to create documents with a single click. Excel Online will also make its way to the web store soon after the initial roll out. In its blog post, Microsoft has also announced some new features for Office Online. For instance, Excel Online will now allow users to insert new comments, along with ability to edit and delete existing comments. The company has spruced up support for files containing VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), which will allow users to open and edit VBA-enabled spreadsheets without corrupting the VBA in the file. It has also added the ‘Tell Me’ feature to Excel Online. We’ve earlier seen the feature for Word that allows users to “ask Word how to do something, and have the relevant commands presented in a simple drop-down list so you can perform your action right away.” Word Online adds commenting to editing mode, so you make comments and changes at the same time as others. “Word Online is now smarter when it comes to list making, too. For example, when you’re making a list, if you’re directly below an existing numbered list and start typing, your next line automatically becomes part of the list—just like in desktop Word,” states the blog. PowerPoint Online has been updated so that the slide layouts look more like the final copy, while OneNote gets print functionality along with multi-column section.
