Microsoft, GoPro sign patent licensing agreement for 'certain file storage and other system technologies'

Microsoft and GoPro have announced a collaborative patent for certain file storage and other system technologies. The terms of the agreement are confidential as of now.According to the Microsoft blog, the patent agreement is another example of the important role intellectual property (IP) plays in ensuring a healthy and vibrant technology ecosystem.“This agreement with GoPro shows the incredible breadth of technology sharing enabled through patent transactions,” said Nick Psyhogeos, president of Microsoft Technology Licensing. “Microsoft’s licensing of personal wearable technologies is seeing strong demand as we partner with companies from all industries to optimize solutions for their customers around the globe.”A previous report had stated that the camera maker’s shares fell 10 percent in extended trading this month. GoPro forecast current-quarter revenue well below analysts’ estimates on weak demand for its wearable cameras and the company named Brian McGee as its new chief financial officer. Demand for GoPro’s helmet- and body-mounted cameras has been declining as rivals such as China’s Xiaomi offer cheaper products and smartphone cameras turn increasingly advanced.
