Microsoft confirms Windows Phone 8 update with support for Google services

Microsoft has also announced a new update for its Windows Phone 8 and this one will allow users to sync with Google services along with support for FM Radio.

In a blog post that talked about the Lumia 925, the company wrote,

The new update, which is expected to start rolling out to existing Windows Phone 8 phones later this summer, brings back support for FM radio (we heard you!) and makes the Data Sense feature of Windows Phone 8 available for more carriers to offer. The update also makes it easier to select, download, and pin tunes in Xbox Music and improves the accuracy of song info and other metadata.

The post added that the update comes with better syncing for Google services and adds support for the Google's newest sync protocols- CalDAV and CardDAV. This means that users can now use their entire suite of Google mail, calendar, and contact services on their Windows Phone 8 device as well.

This is important as Google had recently cut-off support to Exchange Active Sync, thus threatening to cut out Windows Phone devices from accessing its services.

The update willroll out to existing Windows Phone 8 devices later this summer. According to this report on Zdnet,the next update for Windows Phone 8 is likely to come in 2014.
