Microsoft acquires Groove music iOS app from startup Zikera

According to reports, Microsoft has confirmed that it has acquired the Groove music app that was available on iOs from the startup Zikera. This news comes in after Microsoft mysteriously changed the name of its Xbox Music app to Groove.A Microsoft spokesperson said to VentureBeat over email that the company has indeen acquired Zikera's Groove music app and added that there is nothing more to share.Zikera, however, has divulged some details about the transaction. "We are thrilled to announce that Groove has been acquired by Microsoft!" the team said.The team added that Groove is no longer available for download, but current users may continue to use the app. They will not be submitting any more updates for the same.Just before its Windows 10 roll out in July last year, Microsoft rebranded its Xbox Music service as 'Groove'.There is one more 'Groove' associated with Microsoft's history. ZDNet says Microsoft bought a company known as Groove Networks back in 2005 (and got Groove founder Ray Ozzie to join Microsoft as Chief Software Architect in the process). That Groove evolved into what today is SharePoint Workspace and/or OneDrive for Business.
