Micromax to launch two Windows Phone 8.1 devices on June 16: Report

While we have known Micromax is working with Microsoft to bring budget Windows Phone devices in India, looks like the wait is over. According to a report by The Times of India, Micromax is all set to launch its two Windows Phone-based devices next week on June 16. Earlier this year, at BUILD 2014, Microsoft's Joe Belfiore had announced Micromax as its new hardware partner in India.   Micromax is believed to launch two Canvas smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1. According to the report, one of the devices would sports a 5-inch full-HD display, and come powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor coupled with 2GB RAM. It would also get a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, 16GB onboard storage and a microSD card slot. The report also adds that one of the smartphones will be aimed at entry-level users priced around Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000, while other will be slightly expensive model priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 11,000. Earlier at the BUILD conference, Microsoft had revealed that brand new Micromax devices running WP8.1 could hit stores in April and early May. Though a little delayed, the Canvas devices could give a further boost to Windows Phone devices after success of the Lumia 720 and Lumia 520. In order to break Android dominance, there were reports about Microsoft offering the OS without any license fee. Along with Micromax, it was also in talks with companies such as Lava and Karbonn to launch low-cost devices.
