Meizu likely to bring optical fingerprint recognition to its smartphones

Fingerprint technology is part of most smartphones these days with companies announcing new advancements to the technology every year. Last year Qualcomm and Synaptics announced their next generation of fingerprint sensors with Qualcomm going for Sense ID, a comprehensive biometric security solution, while Synaptics opting for an optical sensor instead of a capacitive sensor. This was quickly followed by the rumours that Apple will integrate an optical fingerprint sensor in the upcoming iPhone 8.This means that the company will do away with the capacitive button and integrate the fingerprint sensor in the display allowing the display size to be increased in the same form-factor.However, Apple is not the only company rumoured to integrate fingerprint scanner under the display of its smartphones. Chinese smartphone maker Meizu has hinted that the company is working on adding integrated optical fingerprint sensors in its upcoming smartphones.According to a report by GizmoChina, Meizu VP. Li Nan hinted to his friends that Meizu may go along with the optical fingerprint sensor. One important thing to note is that the company has not directly mentioned or announced the arrival of the new sensor but the hint was a screenshot of an article talking about Apple's optical fingerprint scanner. This is completely different from the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that Xiaomi has added in its smartphones, like the units in the Mi Mix and the Mi 5s.
