Liveblog: Microsoft demos Windows 10 S, Surface Laptop and a bunch of educational tools
Microsoft's education-centric event is just around the corner. It's scheduled for 7:00 PM today and we're expecting to see a bunch of new offerings targeting the education sector.
Highest on the list of expectations is a Chromebook rival from Microsoft. This could take the form of the budget-friendly Surface laptop that leaked this morning or even a new version of Windows 10. It's been rumoured that this new version of Windows will be called Windows 10 S and that it'll be ARM-friendly, i.e., it'll run on the low-power Qualcomm Snapdragon platform. It's also possible that this new OS will not run regular Windows 10 apps and that it'll be restricted to apps from the Universal Windows Platform or UWP. These are the apps found in the Windows Store on Windows 10.Of course, don't expect to see an update to the Surface lineup, and this includes a Surface Pro 5 or a new Surface Book or even a new, high-end Windows Lumia device. We might see a bunch of cloud-centric offerings from Microsoft, however. Regardless, we'll find out in the next few hours anyway. If you have the bandwidth, you can stream the event live from here. If not, feel free to follow the liveblog here, which will give you up-to-the-minute updates on the event's progress.
