LG Nexus 5 with 5-inch display and Snapdragon 800 spotted at FCC

While Google shocked everyone by announcing its next Android version as “KitKat” and not Key Lime Pie, the introductory video managed to create even bigger drama. The video, which Google pulled out from YouTube immediately, showed an employee holding an unknown Nexus-branded device. Interestingly, a closer look at the device showed that it was imprinted with the LG logo. Soon speculation was rife that an LG-built Nexus 5 was on its way. Now, here’s more from the rumour mills.

Engadget reveals that a smartphone dubbed LG-D820, which has been approved by the FCC is likely to be the next-gen Nexus. So, here are the clues. To begin with, the leaked image shows a section detailing the device's Qi wireless charging capabilities, revealing the inside of the cover. Compare it with the phone leaked earlier and the two pictures fit in well.

The leaked document also shows phone firmware M8974A while the software version listed is "aosp_hammerhead-userdebugKyeLimePieFACTORYeng.sangjoon84.lee.20130618.015154." This further indicates a Snapdragon 800 SoC, and the software is likely to be the new Android KitKat (earlier known as Key Lime Pie).

The LG-D820 is being tested for several wireless standards, which includes LTE that should work with carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. It comes with support for HSPA and GSM bands, and also CDMA and EVDO Rev A. It also shows a healthy list of specs such as Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and dual-band 802.11 b/g/n/ac. The lack of LTE was one of the major drawbacks of the Nexus 4, and LG may be trying to correct the error this time.

Moreover, AnandTech has got its hands on a leaked document for LG-D820 that points out a 126.0mm display diagonal, which means a 5- inch display. The length and width of the device is listed as 131.9 mm x 68.2 mm.
