Leaked Amazon Bluetooth controller hints at bigger push in gaming

Looks like Amazon is going all guns blazing into the home entertainment arena. We had already heard a lot about a possible Amazon media streamer that will take on the likes of Roku, Apple TV and even Google Chromecast. It’s now looking very real thanks to a leaked image from Brazil’s telecom regulatory authority discovered by ZatzNotFunny. But it’s not the actual box or specifications that have come to light. Instead, we are getting a look at what is a Amazon Bluetooth gaming controller. This is a very strong indication of Amazon adding native gaming capabilities to its set-top box, along with other content tie-ups. The wireless Bluetooth controller looks to be made out of the same material as the new Kindle Fire HDX tablets and has a bunch of controls that mimic other popular controllers. There are shoulder buttons and triggers, in addition to a media playback controls on the base, which mean the controller could also double up as the primary remote control for the whole entertainment unit. We can also see home, menu and back buttons, which suggest that this could be an Android-based offering running Amazon’s Fire OS. There’s also a central button which could take you to a gaming hub or online multiplayer mode. There’s not a whole lot more we know right now about the controller, but it would make sense for Amazon to pair it up with its Kindle Fire HDX tablets as well, which are quite well spec’d to handle high-quality 3D games.
