Labour group report further hints at Apple's budget iPhone plans
This new report details upon the poor working conditions of workers at the Pegatron plant in Shanghai, as Apple prepares to unveil a “scaled-back, less expensive version of the iPhone.”
Some more light has been shed on the existence of a budget Apple iPhone, courtesy a report from China Labor Watch.
This new PDF report from the labour group details upon the poor working conditions of workers at the Pegatron plant in Shanghai, as Apple prepares to unveil a scaled-back, less expensive version of the iPhone.
An account of a worker inside the Pegatron plant reads: “Today’s work is to paste protective film on the iPhone’s plastic back cover to prevent it from being scratched on assembly lines. This iPhone model with a plastic cover will soon be released on the market by Apple.”
Fuelling these reports is another leak; a slim fit case has reportedly managed to show up early on Amazon, and by the looks of it, it seems to have been made to fit the iPhone 5C – the name everyone’s using to refer to the budget iPhone. The image also confirms rumours that the smartphone will indeed sport elongated volume buttons on the side.

The date of availability mentioned alongside the image of the case incidentally is August 23, 2013, sparking off fresh rumours about the date on which Apple plans to unveil the iPhone 5C.
