KY Thunder Mobile From Onida Launched

Aimed at the youth segment.

Onida, the name known for its TVs has launched the KY Thunder 007 (not to be confused with a British secret agent) targeting the youth market. The phone has a built-in woofer, and “offers the biggest thumping sound quality in any mobile” as per Mr. G Sundar, CEO, Mirc.

It offers the standard features of a 2 MP camera, Bluetooth, Dual SIM (GSM only) and a dual memory slot expandable up to 8 GB. Priced at Rs. 3,699 the phone has been launched first in Andhra Pradesh as Mirc has its largest shares there.

Taste the thunder!

This is only one amongst a series of youth-oriented phones, out of which four have been already launched while two are in queue. There are around eighteen models that Onida is keen on launching by the end of March 2011.

Mr. G Sundar said, “The company has three research and development teams based in Mumbai, Noida and in China that design its products. Manufacturing is done at various locations depending on the incentives and other parameters,”

While not being an instant hit, the youth segment definitely is hot property for many electronics companies and with the launch of the KY Thunder, Onida seems to have joined the bandwagon.
