Kickstarter campaign for Mega Man successor reaches funding goal

Less than two days after the start of its Kickstarter campaign, Keiji Inafune’s Mega Man successor has managed to reach its funding goals of $900,000, and then some. At the time of writing this story, the campaign for side-scrolling action game Mighty No 9 sits on $1,189,041 and has 28 more days to go. The developers have introduced a number of stretch goals for the campaign.

If it gets funded to $1.2 million, the developers will add two more stages which will have their own enemies and boss fights. At $1.35 million, the devs will work on Mac and Linux versions of the game. The most interesting stretch goal is $2.5 million, where the devs will work on getting the game to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. This is made all the more interesting because owing to the expected 2015 launch, Inafune's team could've opted to port the game to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

In the game, players take on the role of Beck, 9th in a line of powerful robots and the only one to not get infected by a mysterious computer virus that has been causing other robots to go berserk. Much like the classic Mega Man, players will get to run, jump, blast and transform their way through six levels, which can be tackled in any order. More levels will likely be added through stretch goals. Beck, being the robot that he is, has the ability to get new weapons from defeated foes and transform his body in a number of ways, which in turn allow for new skills and abilities.
