Jolla seeks funds for its first Sailfish-based tablet

Update: Jolla has announced it has reached its $380,000 target to build the Jolla Tablet.Jolla's Sailfish OS based smartphone was launched in India in September, but for its maiden tablet which will sport the Sailfish 2.0 OS, Jolla has one big condition. Jolla wants you, the user, to help it design and fund the tablet. This will make Jolla tablet the first crowd-sourced tablet. It already has a page up on Indiegogo and of the $380,000 target, almost 89% of it has been reached, with 21 days still to go. Looks like Jolla will easily meet the financial target.While funding is one aspect, the other aspect is designing the tablet. For that Jolla will take suggestions from users with regards to features and the best ideas which get the maximum up-votes will be implemented. These features will most likely be software features, as Jolla has pretty much decided on the hardware.[caption id="attachment_242505" align="aligncenter" width="630"] The Jolla tablet sports a minimal design and hand gestures will help out with navigations[/caption] The Jolla tablet will sport a 7.85-inch display having a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, a 64-bit Intel quad-core processor, 32GB of upgradeable memory, a 4,300mAh capacity battery and a 3MP rear camera. The pricing is expected to start at $189 or approx Rs 11,700.The Finnish company seems to be concentrating on keeping things minimal. It is seen on the design of the tablet, which is shorn off any buttons. The navigation will be using hand gestures. The Jolla tablet will work with Android layer on top of the native Sailfish apps which will allow you to run Android apps alongside native apps. It stresses on the ease of multi-tasking on the Indiegogo page, "Multitasking on Sailfish OS shows all your running apps conveniently in one single view. But Sailfish OS still has to prove its mettle considering it isn't as popular as the other established players.
