iTunes to Offer Movie Downloads In September

BusinessWeek has reported that Apple plans to offer full-length movie downloads via iTunes from September onwards.

Apple and its iPod music service have virtually become synonymous with online music distribution. Therefore, when rumors about their entry into the video download market began to circulate it came as no surprise to anyone.

BusinessWeek has reported that Apple plans to offer full-length movie downloads via iTunes from September onwards. New releases will be sold for $14.99 and older films for $9.99. Movies will be protected under the Fairplay DRM agreement where the downloaded item can be played on a limited number of devices. The ability to record to DVD will likely be provided as well.

With various entities entering this business iTunes will have a tough job ahead.
