Intel reportedly undercutting Qualcomm, MediaTek with aggressively priced tablet CPUs for China

In this mobile-focussed world, Intel is one company that lags behind mobile chip makers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek. In order to push their mobile CPUs, Intel has come out with an aggressive pricing strategy to promote their CPUs meant for tablets, particularly in the China market. In an unconfirmed report, Digitimes claims that Intel has dropped its mainstream quad-core tablet processor's price to below US$5. There was no mention of the exact CPU part. This price point is much lower than what is offered by NVIDIA, Qualcomm and even MediaTek. According to sources, the number of Intel-based tablets will be on the rise thanks to a lot of China-based brands and white-box tablet vendors are expected to use Intel CPUs in their tablets. Also recently at the Intel Developer Forum, where Intel announced its low power Braswell chips  it had announced deepening of its relationship with China-based supply chain. It announced an Intel Smart Device innovation Center in Shenzhen and a US $100 million fund. Intel's low priced CPUs will be attractive to white-box tablet makers and Intel aims to ship around 40 million tablet CPUs in 2014 which includes the entry-level Bay Trail family and SoFIA 3G platform, according to sources.
