Indian telecom user base fell to 895.51 million at the end of Dec'12: TRAI

As per the latest Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the telephone subscriber base in the country fell from 937.70 million at the end of September 2012 to 895.51 million at the end of December 2012.

In the report released yesterday, TRAI offers a detailed insight into the growth trends for telecom as well as Cable TV, DTH and radio broadcasting services in India.

As for the wireless subscribers, the report spotted a decline of 41.90 million subscribers in the review period. The total wireless (GSM+CDMA) subscriber base put in a negative growth of 4.62 percent over the previous quarter. The subscriber base fell from 906.62 million at the end of September 2012 to 864.72 million at the end of December 2012.

The wireline subscriber base too registered a fall from 31.08 million at the end of September 2012 to 30.79 million at the end of December 2012. Further, the report found the overall MOU per subscriber per month for GSM services to have increased by 4.99 percent – from 342 in the quarter ending September 2012 to 359 at the quarter ending December 2012. While the total MOU for CDMA per subscriber per month rose by 2.15 percent – from 225.22 in the quarter ending September 2012 to 230.06 in the quarter ending December 2012.
