News has it that the Indian cyberspace is currently being threatened by a new and deadly variant of computer virus called Beebone. The virus is part of the Trojan malware family and works its way into a computer by faking its identity first, and then by deploying smart and corrupt techniques to attack the vulnerable systems. As it stands now, computer users in the country are being warned against this deadly virus and have been asked to protect their systems adequately to disallow this virus from attacking it.

The Computer Emergency Response Team-India (CERT-In) said: “It has been observed that new variants of Trojan win32/Beebone are spreading widely. This is a trojan downloader family which silently downloads and installs other malware and programs without user consent," an advisory issued by the national Internet and computer security sleuths organisation.”

PC users in the country are being urged to “exercise caution” when using external/removable storage devices. The agency recommends that users disable autorun functionality in Windows and regularly update their OS, so as to receive the latest patches and bug fixes. Users are also being asked to stay away from untrusted websites and keep their anti-virus and anti-spyware signatures on their desktop and gateway level up to date. “..use strong passwords and also enable password policies and avoid downloading pirated software," CERT-In has advised further.

The agency has further provided a list of aliases that the virus is known to take on:
