IMImobile launches new language application, MY SMS

IMImobile have launched a new application called MY SMS, which allows users to access their messages in their native language, according to a report by News Tonight. Here’s how it works. The application will provide value added services to network operators and based on these services, the operators can further give native language access to their customers. The application needs to be downloaded on the device first. Currently, only Symbian and J2ME users can get the application as Android and other operating systems are not supported.

Users can now view messages in their own language

Users wanting this application need to dial 56263 and the settings will be automatically downloaded onto their phone. According to IMImobile, they plan to break the default language barrier which has been a roadblock for communication for some people. The application currently consists of eight Indian languages, English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi and Bangla.

No other details have been provided as of now but if the application does accurately function the way it intends to, it sounds like good news for most people in villages, talukas and distant towns in the Indian countryside to access news and information in their preferred language. That said, for the application to reach out to every part of India it does need to have more language and dialect support other than the aforementioned eight languages.
