Idea Cellular to launch slew of digital apps on 30 January: Report

Idea Cellular is all geared up to launch a suite of digital apps on the lines of Reliance Jio's offerings for its customers. The launch will take place on Monday 30 January and Idea claims that its move to push out a bunch of app-related services is a part of its transition to becoming a pan-India mobile broadband operator.According to various reports, the apps and services will together be called the 'Digital Idea' suite. It will consist of apps for movies, TV, music and gaming among many others. The apps are aimed at the "on the move" generation and will come packed with content for users.“As we leapfrog from being a voice and data services provider to becoming a full service digital solutions company, we continue to deliver on our promise of ‘changing lives’ and become the catalyst in fueling the Digital India movement,” said managing director Himanshu Kapania in the invite.Indeed these apps would give more reasons for its users to jump on to the operator's data network which would increase data consumption by the user.An older quarterly report hints that the apps will be branded as Idea Games, Idea Videos, Idea Music, Idea Chat, Idea Storage, Idea News and Magazines and even Idea TV.Indeed the move would be perceived by many as Idea's attempt to provide services that work similarly to those offered by Jio's 4G network. Currently, the only other operator that seems to offer a similar bouquet of app-based services that comes close to Jio's offerings is Airtel.Disclaimer: Reliance Industries owns Network18 which also publishes Firstpost.com (tech2)
