If reports are to be believed then Google could dump Asus and team up with Taiwanese phone maker HTC for its next Nexus tablet, presumably the Nexus 8. Asus has built the previous two generations of the Nexus tablet - Nexus 7 (2012) and Nexus 7 (2013) According to Digi Times, Google could team up with HTC for Nexus 8 tablet that is expected to release in the third quarter. News has it that "prior to its cooperation with Asustek for the first-generation Nexus 7," Google had tried to partner with HTC. However, HTC refused as it was "busy pushing its smartphone business back then". The sources from an upstream supply chain also revealed to the news site that the Nexus tablet series has achieved its goal of helping Google penetrate into the Android market and the California based company is also very aggressive about the Nexus 8 tablet. The Nexus tablets haven't taken the markets by storm, and some believe that it could most likely be Google's last Nexus tablet. It is also speculated that Google may announce the new Nexus 8 at its upcoming I/O conference.
