The Halo franchise is no stranger to having an expanded universe through different forms of media, such as books. According to Wired, comic publisher Dark Horse will be publishing a monthly comic based on the sci-fi FPS. It will be based on the Reclaimer trilogy that was started in Halo 4. The comic, dubbed Halo: Escalation, will hit store shelves on December 11.

Halo 4 Lead Writer Chris Schlerf describes Escalation as a part of a grand effort by 343 Industries to expand the story aspect of the franchise. “Halo in general has always had some great characters,” Schlerf says, “more, I think, than it’s been given credit for.”

Schlerf revealed to Wired that the comic's plot will revolve around “how the events of Halo 4 have helped define the destiny not only of the Chief but of the galaxy as a whole."Multiplayer in Halo 4 is the standard red versus blue

While the plot of Halo 4 was quite epic, even introducing a new antagonist—Didact, the game mostly revolved around the relationship between series protagonist Master Chief and his handler AI Cortana.

“The overall fiction of the Halo universe has defined people’s experiences with the game beyond just our storylines and our characters,” he said. “Multi-player in particular has been shaped by the fantasy of being a Spartan and the more sci-fi elements of gameplay that go beyond just a typical military shooter.”

The Halo series is being well expanded in alternative media. During the Xbox One reveal, Microsoft had announced that the franchise will be getting a live action TV series directed by Steven Spielberg.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns.
