Government of India clarifies that it is not going to brew beer in space

Parliament and parliamentary sessions are where new bills and laws are proposed and discussed before being amended, rejected or passed. The topics of the discussion are supposed to focus on pressing issues of national interest and problems that the citizens are facing. But regardless of the importance of the session, Sisir Kumar Adhikari, an MP for Trinamool Congress decided to enquire about the apparent plans of Indian Government to brew beer in space.He went on to ask about the details about the topic if Indian spacecraft was planning to brew beer on moon enquiring about research plan and viability of yeast test.It is understandable for MPs to get such unusual stories seeking to demand a justification on spending the tax payers money. But what is amusing is Minister of State in PMO, Jitendra Singh clarified the point of discussion in the parliament.Singh detailed that there are no plans to brew beer on moon in any spacecraft made by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). A private team, Team Indus is taking part in the Google Lunar XPRIZE competition. The private team is funded by Axiom Research Labs. The team has proposed brewing beer on Moon using yeast to test and observe how yeast survives in space and under Moon's gravity conditions.Another important thing to note as reported by India.com is that all activities on Moon, other celestial bodies are governed by UN treaties on Outer Space, the Outer Space Treaty of 1967 amd Moon Agreement of 1979.
