Google has now started rolling out invites for its wearable device, Google Glass. The search giant has been known to kick off new products with personalised emails to rope new users into its fold. Back in the day, it was commonplace for users to see an “invite” from a friend asking them to join Gmail; Google has used this tactic with many other products including its social networking site, Google+.

The $1500 (Rs 90,940 approx) wearable device has been generating a lot of buzz lately. Specifications-wise, the Google Glass comes with a 640 x 360 resolution screen which may not sound like much, but it should not be forgotten that the display will right in front of the user’s eyes. The device also comes with a camera that can shoot 5 megapixel images and shoot 720p videos. The sound will be transferred to the user’s ears via bone conduction. Internally, Glass comes with 16GB of flash memory, out of which 12GB can be used, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g (no n) and Bluetooth. The device also comes with a host of other features, like checking emails and surfing the Internet.
Google has also been planning to pad up the product with a host of updates and product support. Recently the company announced plans to bring Hangouts to the device, and has also integrated social media support, like being able to tweet photos, as well. While the invites may now be rolling out, it was reported earlier that the company may take a year to get the wearable device to the market. Thus, users are advised to not get too excited by this news, unless they have a friend who can invite them onto the Google Glass programme.
