Google News for Mobile Gets More Location Aware

Gathers news that's more relevant to the phone's location.

Google News for mobile has started tuning in to the phone's location that it's being accessed on to deliver relevant news for that area. Google rolled out the service on Friday, calling it "News Near You" to iPhone and Android users. To access this feature, just go to Google News from the browser of your smartphone. If this is the first time you're using Google News on your phone, a pop up will ask you if you want to share your location. If you say yes, a new section, "News Near You" will be added at the bottom of the homepage. You can reorganize its sections later via the personalization page.

Gets more relevant by being near you

You can get rid of the feature by turning it off in the personalization page or by changing the settings of your mobile browser.
