Google Maps' revamped interface now available to all

Google had earlier shown off the update to its Maps service back during Google I/O. The company had since started the closed invite-only beta for the new Maps. Now, however, the search giant has made the preview version of maps available to all. On opening Google Maps on your web browser, you will be asked if you want to try out the new Maps. If you want to take a look at some of the features that will be making it to the new version of Maps, you can give the preview a spin, or simply take a look at this video:

While the new Google Maps does look quite pretty, it is still a preview, and as a result, seems to be somewhat feature-incomplete. For instance, Google still hasn’t added support for multi-level maps, indoor maps or even the ability to add new destinations during route-planning. We couldn’t even find the “find me” button to make Maps focus on the area around us. As with the recent update to the mobile version of Maps, the new desktop Maps will have a cleaner interface and a greater focus on ratings and reviews.

In other news, Google Maps has also been released for the iPad. The new version of Maps for the tablet has the same interface as the new web version of the service. The version of Maps released for the iPad brings features such as an Explore option that lets you browse nearby restaurants, bars and shops. iPhone users will also be getting the same features in an update.

Just recently, Google had rolled out the new Maps update for Android devices. The first thing you will notice with this update is that the user interface of Google Maps has been given a major overhaul. The design is now similar to what the iPhone version of Google Maps looks like after the major update back in December. The menu button has now shifted to the left and more emphasis is now being laid on ratings and reviews.
