Google launches Daydream Kit for developers to make VR applications

Google has made available the Daydream Developer Kit for developers. The kit is required to make Daydream applications. Those who want to make the applications need three pieces of hardware. A Nexus 6P phone running Android N is the only supported VR headset phone at this point of time. Users will require another Android phone with a gyroscope, and KitKat or a later version of the operating system. The second phone is for use as a controller emulator. Finally, a VR headset compatible with Google Cardboard is needed.The controller phone has to be paired over Bluetooth with the headset phone. There is a controller emulator software that has to be installed on the controller phone. The app is designed to be used without looking, as the user will be using a VR headset while operating the controller phone. The app emulates the Google Daydream controller, a dedicated piece of hardware for the VR platform. There are sample applications included in the kit. The Google VR SDK is available for two platforms, for Unity and the Android SDK.[caption id="attachment_315683" align="aligncenter" width="640"] The Daydream VR Controller[/caption]For now, only the developers who are part of the Daydream Access Program can publish apps to the Play Store. Developers in the Daydream Access Program get early access to new tools and features of the VR platform. These developers also provide feedback on the platform to Google.
