Google Maps now has voice-enabled lane guidance for 20 Indian cities

Google has introduced a new lane guidance feature for its Maps application on Android and iOS in India. The updated app will now allow users to hear voice-guided instructions which will show the user the lane they should stay in or move into while using navigation mode.The new feature will be available for major roads in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Mysore, Nagpur, Pune, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Vadodara and Visakhapatnam. App users will also receive lane guidance on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. The feature is available in English and Hindi.Commenting on the launch, Suren Ruhela, Director Product and Program Management, Google said, “Our goal is to continue making Google Maps for mobile into a handy travel companion for your daily commutes and trips around India, and we hope the new lane guidance will help make road travels easier to navigate for English and Hindi speaker across the country.”The launch of lane guidance within Google Maps for mobile is the part of the tech giant's effort to make the service more useful for users in India. Earlier reports suggested that Google Maps is available in Hindi for Android and PCs. To view Hindi names on Google Maps, users will need to enable Hindi as the preferred language on their devices.On the desktop version of the app, users will  have to click on the settings wheel at the bottom before changing the language preference to Hindi. Other regional languages supported are Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam.
