Google conversation search goes live on Chrome

Last week during Google I/O, the company had unveiled its plans for a new conversation-styled searching method for its search service. The “conversation search” service has now gone live and is available to those who use the Chrome browser. The company had earlier promised that this would completely change the way we search for anything on the Internet.

To use it, you just have to use the latest version of the Chrome browser, which updates itself automatically. After this, you can simply go to Google and click on the mic button which starts an interface that looks a lot like Google Now from Android. Although searching using voice has been around for quite a while now, the new feature actually has the search engine talking back to you, thus giving it more of a “conversational quality”.

Another special thing about the new search is that it works a lot like a conversation. For example, you can ask Google how old a celebrity is, to which Google will simply give you an answer. Taking it a step further, however, is continuing the conversation and asking other things about the celebrity like you would ask any human being, and Google will oblige with the answers for your new questions. A search started with “How old is George Clooney” can be easily taken ahead by then asking “How tall is he” or “what movies is he working on”. The search engine seems to have learned how to use pronouns.

The conversation-styled search was showcased alongside many other new services from Google, including the unified messaging service Hangouts and the overhauled new interface to Maps.
