Google Celebrates Luminosity; Doodles in Celebration of Edison

Two days after Google celebrated the birth of one of science fiction's greatest writers, it celebrates the birth of one of the greatest scientists. The Doodle today celebrates Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb. The Doodle features a series of machines in motion and a light bulb increasing and decreasing in luminosity. While the image is pretty neat, the fact that the Verne Doodle was only two days ago makes the Edison Doodle seem like a little bit of a let down. The Verne Doodle was interactive, if Google was coming out with a Doodle just two days later, they should have upped their game a little bit. We know that Doodles aren't meant to be competitive but still, can you forget the Verne Doodle? Heck no! Will you remember the Doodle that came two days later? Probably not...

A tribute to Edison

Edison himself did a lot for the media industry. First of all, his invention of incandescent lighting allowed us to capture shots in low light situations. He made his first fortune with the stock ticker and was awarded patents for the phonograph and motion picture camera. He also invented the Kinetoscope which is a peephole viewer. Edison also set up a system for electricity distribution and was involved with the invention of the electric chair. He was born on the 11th of February in 1847 and lived until the age of 84.
