Gmail's full-screen compose box rolling out to everyone

Following an update last month, Gmail users could choose to compose their emails in full-screen. Now, over the next few days, the new way of composing emails on Google will become the default way.

Google is bidding adieu to the old compose design and transitioning all users to the new compose over the next few weeks. Once you opt for the new design, the compose box will appear at the centre of your inbox and expand to occupy your entire screen. As of now, users have the option to either click on the expand button on the top right or select the Default to full-screen option in the more options menu on the bottom right to switch to the new design.

We like how the new compose design lets users write multiple drafts and keep an eye out for incoming mails, all at the same time. There’s also added support for in-line images in the new design, giving users a richer experience on Gmail.

In October last year, Google showed off its new compose window and subsequently made it the default way to send emails in March this year. The new compose window, which popped out like a “larger” chat window, made it easier for users to multitask. Many then switched to the redesigned format.

Over the months following that announcement, Google added a bunch of new features to its new Compose experience, including a new way to send files with Google Drive, features like pop-out replies and the Canned Responses lab, to name a few.
