Gmail iOS app gets support for 'brand new inbox'

When Google first announced that it was rolling out its ‘brand new inbox’ a few days ago, it mentioned that the changes would show up over the next couple of weeks. Right on cue, the Gmail iOS app has been upped to version 2.3.1, to incorporate the brand new inbox.

The update promised that it will let users control their inboxes and not the other way around. The 'brand new inbox' that Google is offering with this update is particularly interesting for users who have inboxes full of emails from friends, social notifications, deals and offers, confirmations, and so on, and don't see a way to organise it better. For the ones using Gmail app for iPhone and iPad, the Primary email will show up when they launch the app. They can also move to other tabs, if they wish. To jump on the new Gmail bandwagon, users will have to configure this feature by going to Gmail.com on their computer. The Gmail iOS app that has been designed for both, the iPhone and the iPad will work on devices running iOS 5.0 or later. This app is optimised for iPhone 5.

What's more the update also brings new notifications options for iOS users, thanks to which, they can opt for being notified for messages, only important messages, or for none at all. They can set these changes in a per account basis. Additionally, these changes can be customised from the in-app settings page.
