Galaxy Note 10.1, Jelly Bean infringe our patents: Apple

The never ending Apple vs Samsung saga continues. According to Bloomberg, Apple has now told Judge Paul S Grewal in a federal court in San Jose, that the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and Android 4.1/Jelly Bean OS infringe its patents.

This latest filing by Apple is a part of a bid to expand its patent case against Samsung, but significantly, the new filing also directly challenges Android makers Google.

The report also states the case in which Apple added the Galaxy Note 10.1 and Jelly Bean operating system is scheduled for trial in 2014.

The latest filing shows that the fight was never just about Samsung vs Apple. As Eric Schmidt, Google's Executive Chairman, had said earlier, that as the world sees more Android devices, there was a higher likelihood that its battle with Apple Inc. would intensify. He called this "defining fight" of the industry.

An IDC report for Q3 2012 had stated that nearly 75 percent of the world's smartphones are running Android while Apple's iOS has only 14.9 percent of the market share, a rise from its 13.8 percent market share of last year but still pitiful when compared to Android.

Earlier this year Apple had removed both Google Maps and the native YouTube app from iOS 6.

Apple's decision to launch its own maps application didn't go too well with the users who complained that it was patchy and half-baked.
