Fujitsu Offers LED Backlit Ultra-Portable

One of the more interesting developments, post-CES this year, has been the sudden popularity of LED backlit displays. LED backlighting facilitates thinner and brighter screens, sharper color and reduced power requirements on laptops. This helps in increasing battery life by as much as 45 minutes.

The first ones off the block had been Asus, who had jumped everyone by announcing an 11.1-inch ultra-portable that featured the technology. Now following their steps, Fujitsu has just announced their new LifeBook P7230 laptop, which features a 10.6 inch LED backlit display. The new laptop comes packed with a 1.2GHz Intel Core Solo U1400 Ultra Low Voltage processor, 1 GB of DDR2 667MHz system memory and a 40 GB HDD. Wireless communication is taken care of by an Atheros Super 802.11a/b/g chipset.

The P7230 also packs in a 6x Multi-Format DVD Writer, two USB 2.0 ports, an IEEE 1394 Firewire port, a full-sized video port, modem, LAN and audio in and out jacks. Battery life for P7230 notebook is rated at 6 hours with a 6-cell battery and 9.75 hours with the additional modular bay battery. For installing the extended modular battery, the DVD Writer will have to be swapped out.
