For the last few years, Square Enix has been slowly porting most, if not all of its Final Fantasy titles to smartphones. Over time, the company has released six of the classic games, numbering from 1 to 5 along with Tactics. In an interview with Kotaku, Square Enix Director and Producer Takashi Tokita has revealed that Final Fantasy 6 for iOS and Android is currently under development.

Tokita has stated that it won't be a straight port of the original SNES and PlayStation-era game. Instead, it will be completely remade for touchscreen devices. "It is basically like a remake of the original VI," said Tokita. "But there have been some enhancements."One of the best games in the franchises, according to many

"The battle systems have been altered for the other [mobile remakes] for Final Fantasy and VI will be the same. For instance grinding was an issue and people had to spend a lot of time leveling up. Now on the mobile devices the battle systems have been adjusted so you don't have to fight as much and can enjoy the game for what it is."

The graphics of the game will still be the same old 2D sprites gamers will remember, but they will be sharpened so as to look good on smartphone and tablet displays.

Tokita went on to talk about how the legacy series of Android and iOS ports of classic Final Fantasy games won't end with 6. "We are aware that we have tons of VII fans," he noted. "We have VII fans in our own company. If this Legacy project works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII."

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns.
