We’ve all faced this predicament. You’re friends with this annoying colleague from office or old friend from school on Facebook and you just can’t stand them. You cannot unfriend them for fear of being in a spot but you need to stop looking at their updates too.

Most people know the function of a Hide All Stories button on Facebook. Using this, you can block out not just one but every single one of the annoying friend’s updates. Facebook is now rolling out a tweak to its News Feed which will make this process a little less hostile. Now, you will be able to “unfollow” your friends on Facebook too, reports TechCrunch.Unfollow your colleague with ease (Image credit: TechCrunch)

Facebook is now going to make the process of blocking out updates sound a little more civil. Nothing majorly changes, except the fact that the hide feature has a whole new name and that it will be a lot more prominent now. While the Hide All Stories feature has been around on the Facebook News Feed for a while, it’s thought of as a social networking hack, since not a lot of people know about its existence.

When you head on to a friend’s profile now, you will find an additional button next to “Message”. Besides one ticked button that will show you whether or not you’re friends with the person, this button will tell you if you’re “Following” him or her. You can choose to disable it and only be “Friends” with them.

It’s interesting to see how Facebook is slowly trying to make the distinction between friends and followers wider now. The social networking website introduced the Follow feature a while ago, almost inspired by Twitter’s impersonal way of tuning in to each others’ feeds. Users were able to follow someone without being friends with them on Facebook since a while now, but now the opposite is possible as well. You can be friends with someone without having their stories crop up on your News Feed.

The feature is only just starting to roll out, so till it hits your profile, you will have to stick with hiding all stories from that annoying friend.
