Facebook updates iOS and Android apps with Share button

It was recently reported that Facebook was planning on bridging the gap between its desktop and mobile version by adding the Share button to the mobile version, including the Facebook apps for Android and iOS. In an update that has just been dished out, Facebook has done just this and now, one can share other’s content by merely tapping a button.

Apart from this, the iOS version has also received some other updates in the 'What’s New' section. You can now tag your friends in any post, comment or photo; one can also use smileys, hearts and other emoji in messages; and the feed can be sorted by tapping the button next to News Feed in the left sidebar.

The Android app has also received some other updates, and the changelog states that one now has the ability to create an album from the Photos tab on Timeline. There are also improvements to photo tagging. Facebook has also issued a fix for status update failure that is affecting some users.

Facebook's previous update to its iOS app carried new features that made it easier to chat and share multiple photos, among other things.  Along with the update, Facebook also introduced various Instagram-like photo filters, allowing a user to get creative with photographs before uploading it to their Timeline or a photo album.

This year in April, Facebook bought Instagram in a high-profile acquisition for around $1 billion in cash and stock. It appears that Facebook is keeping Instagram as a standalone application, along with utilising its features in its dedicated iOS app. This would make it a lot easier and more importantly, quicker for users to upload pictures on Facebook with filters instead of going through another app and uploading it from there.

Apart from this hidden feature, the Facebook update also featured options such as the ability to swipe left anywhere in the app to quickly see who's available and send a message, add friends you message most to the top of your Favorites, share multiple photos fast and also see who's active (when sending messages), so that you and your friends know how soon to expect a reply.
