Facebook rolls out official app for Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 has now gotten a nice little boost just before its official launch. Facebook has now officially launched its app version for the OS. The new app can now be spotted on the Windows store. Microsoft had last hinted at an official app for the social network coming to the platform at its Build developer event in July.

Overall, the new app looks exactly how you would expect from Facebook, with the status, photo and check-in tabs prominently seen. Also featured is the standard chat interface, pinned to the right-hand side. The company has added the friend request, inbox and notification counters on the very top right. Also featured is a side pane on the left that will give the user easy access to the news feed, messages, event, friends and more.

The social network has also built in "Share Charm" support that will allow users to automatically attach the photo you may be viewing into an e-mail. While Facebook has built in a number of Snap Views for this app, it does not seem to have enabled the smallest option for the same. This basically amounts to the user only snap close to 40 percent of the app window, according to the Verge. The approximate size of the download file is 11.1MB.

Microsoft has been working quite hard to revamp the app list for its latest OS. The company earlier revealed a list of in-built apps that have been worked on for the Windows 8.1 build. Chief among the new apps is Movie Moments, made for users who quickly want to trim their videos and tweak them with effects, music and short captions before sharing them. The photo app has also been revamped, with users directly being able to auto-fix, manually crop images, remove red-eye errors, re-touch and even adjust the basic contrast and brightness settings. The camera app has also been tweaked, and users can now directly access the camera mode from the lockscreen.
