Facebook is testing a meme hub called 'LOL' in an attempt to woo teens

In a millennial's language, last year has been a rather "LOL" year for Facebook, it got itself embroiled in so many controversies over privacy and among the most troubling cases like the case of Cambridge Analytica, that it became the least trusted tech company of all.Now, since it has failed to woo the adults, it is trying to attract the teens. It will apparently have separate categories like 'For You,' 'Animals,' 'Fails' and 'Pranks and this content will be pulled from top meme pages on Facebook.Facebook is yet to decide if LOL will become a stand-alone app or be available in the main app itself."We are running a small scale test and the concept is in the early stages right now," the spokesperson to TechCrunch.Also, LOL is currently in private beta which includes around 100 high school students in the US. They had signed non-disclosure agreements with parental consent to do focus groups and one-on-one testing with Facebook staff.Facebook had launched a video app Lasso that enables users to make and share short-format videos with filters and special effects, but the app hasn't gained much popularity against competitors like TikTok.
